Monday is Orange Shirt Day

Dear Parents,
Monday is Orange Shirt Day!  We have announced it to the students and we are sending you this reminder.

What is Orange Shirt Day?

Orange Shirt Day grew out of Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her “shiny new orange shirt taken away from her on her first day of school at the St Joseph’s Mission.”  It is an opportunity to keep the discussion on residential schools happening annually and a chance for schools, communities and local governments to “come together in the spirit of reconciliation.”    September 30 is the chosen date as this is the time of year that children were taken from their families and placed in residential schools.

To show our support we have decided here at SJV to commemorate Orange shirt Day on Monday Oct. 1.
Yours in faith,
J. Murphy
